The home of the Bremen Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 2791 Tinley Park, Illinois is the former home of the Lehman Brothers gas station / automotive repair shop. In 1947, the Bremen Township Veterans Club (BTVC) was founded. If a person was eligible to join the VFW, they were eligible to join the BTVC. This is because there was no VFW in Tinley Park or Bremen Township. Therefore, the BTVC was formed and because in those days' banks were reluctant to loan money for a VFW. This was due to if the Post could not make it financially the VFW National organization would take it over and the bank would not be able to recover their money.
The Lehman Brothers gas station / automotive repair shop was purchased at a cost of $7,000.00, with a mortgage personally secured by five of the charter members who laid their personal properly on the line for the mortgage. These five extraordinary men were Walter Mager, Edward Cupp, Lloyd Maxwell, Charlie Wolf and Bill Mancke. The old Lehman Brothers gas station / automotive repair shop was transformed into the BTVC Post and then later transformed into the Bremen VFW Post 2791 of Tinley Park, Illinois.
In 1983, under the leadership of the VFW Post Commander Eldon Miller, the post was demolished and rebuilt with a new 5,000 square foot structure with the expectation that it would be a sufficient space for decades to come.
However, in 1998, our post was still growing and out growing the post. Under the leadership of the VFW Post Commander Tom Nelson, we added a 2,500 square foot addition to the east of our building. We expanded our popular banquet hall and added an all-new canteen to host not only our members but also our community.
